man.... master class was the only thing that played decent hip hop... and nobody came to it!!

so now we're stuck without any decent hip hop weeklies and a bunch of whiny people saying that nobody's made an effort. (no offense, sean)

i think they are gonna start that weekly up again at nita's hideaway though, on like a wednesday or something... just keep your eyes open.

and big ups to jimmi :up for gettin stuff goin!

yah, you know you live in a lame-ass city when the only things to do on a saturday are get drunk or go to renovated gay clubs....

wiggety wack.

they did move master class to saturdays for like 2 months or so... but the lack of effort put into promotions was left to blame for that one.

not 'real' enough? ;)

mS. ThAnG

Real enough? I dunno...the production is weak. The beats suck and the lyrics are wack. But to each his own ya know. It's just most of it, does nothing for me.

i'd have to disagree. coldcut has been around since back in the day when they remixed Eric B and Rakim's "paid in full". the own and operate ninja tune. you should check out english hip hop...their shit is closer to what hip hop should be.

as far as production...theoir shit is on point. lyrics... there ususally aren't any. you might give it another try.

please don't come back at me with an attack, i made sure not to be demiening to you and only express my opinion .

aesop rock is sorta what could be tagged alternative hiphop, although i wouldn't call it that.

btw adam, happy late birthday; Ninja tune is definitely the shit, i never knew coldcut remixed paid in full. I'd like to hear that.

CLOKWIZE

I know you've heard the Coldcut remix of PAID IN FULL.

Its the one that goes...

"Pump up the Volume, Pump Up the Volume *scritchy scritch scritch scritch* PUMP THAT BAAABY!"

Has the drum break from "Ashley's Roach Clip" I believe, for all you beatdiggers.

i prefer to think of aesop as a sylable-splicing high conscious street poet... his beats are fat too... max respect to ninja tune! specialy my boi kid koala and the man himself Cabageboy!!:slayer

anyone listen to Mosaik from LA?? they on some accension shit...

mS. ThAnG
09-06-2002, 12:02 PM
Coldcut is the shit, his remixes are dope and I've heard that song a million times, who hasn't? I guess I'm speaking on the Alternative Hip Hop they have on MP3. com... very little I find worth a shit. I definetly feel you on British MC's and dj's. But I don't consider that alternative. Maybe I'm wrong. Abacus has turned me on to a few altenative hip hop groups but he knows my style.:up I'm picky! Oh and Adam, thanks for making sure not to demean me that means a lot.:D and happy late birfday.

Wicka will return in the near future as soon as this Morse Code Album is wrapped up. Fear not, my lovers of HIP-HOP. Oh yes, Tricky T has a saterday night going on at the LD. This weekend will feature BUSDRIVER & 2MEX. These two are heartfelt, verbal masters. Well worth checking out.:up

I am somewhat interested in getting you to elaborate on this point, especially the "what hip-hop should be" part, but since this is not a hip-hop board I will take it up with you offline (if either of our tired asses remembers..).

ThAnG:

I personally find the production and lyrics of what I would call alternative or abstract hip-hop to be of varying quality, but often far superior to what I would call mainstream (for example I would prefer most PBWolf/Madlib/El-P beats over Swizz or RZA beats). We could just be disagreeing on what to call alternative since I would prob claim Aesop ain't mainstream. But as you say, to each their own. Maybe we can compare notes if we ever happen to meet.

Ya.. Good stuff. He's one of the few artists out there that actually warrants comparison to DJ Shadow. I saw "Deadringer" on vinyl at Zia a couple days ago but didn't have enough cash on me-- I'll prolly be kickin myself in a month when I can't find it anywhere. Oh well. When am I gonna learn there is no such thing as "enough cash".

I know there are a lot of Shadow fans on the board. For anyone interested here is a link to a RJD2 review.

sooooooooo was definitive jux on tour or not? yeah el-p's beats are sooooo sick!! so is omega ones... i agree with fantastic on the beat thoughts (but i still love the rza(its rawdawg shiz) ) el-p and aesop just have a way of saying shit that captivates my heart mind and soul... aes is soooo poetic and el-p was born metaphor in his mouth... RJD2 is good, hey fantastic: ever listen to cabage boy from ninja tune? love his beats...:spliff

Oh crap! I guess I might have sounded like I was sleepin on RZA. I haven't rocked it lately but Liquid Swords useta be my weapon of choice.

I have heard some Cabbageboy. Some of it makes me feel like I am in a classroom or a lab or somethin-- like art class maybe? Not sure how I feel about that. It can make me think I shld be analyzing and learning rather than just havin a good time. I have the same issue with Spooky, but thas jus me I guess (I'm too cool for school).

OKAY break it up, hip-hoppers! Anybody wanna tip-toe in the direction of DnB by bringing up maybe Ming + FS or somethin?

- MF

I had to edit this message to change "TO cool for school" to "TOO cool". Too vs. to. I hate when people muff that up. It's just not that hard, ya know?

I don't remember the exact date, sometime in early October. Sage Francis and AWOL-1 will be performing. I'm not sure on the venue either, sorry (I like ganja). You'll be seeing flyers for it though. Also I heard from someone that the Def Jux tour was picked up by someone in the valley of drum. Rumor?:spliff

Also is anyone going to see scarub or zion i on 09-26?

The 2MEX show is happening for sure at the Lucky Dragon (my homie made the flyer). The Sage Francis show is on Nov. 5th at the Bash on Ash. No Awol at that show though. Also coming to town will be PUBLIC ENEMY W/ BLACKALICIOUS & DIALATED PEOPLES .(WHAT THE FUCK!!!) And don't forget about Atmosphere 9-30-02 @ the Bash, this show will sell out.
