Move to California. Tons of beautiful and intelligent women there in the 'scene'. :)

That is so true. Most the girls in the scene now seem to be with their DJ boyfriends. Good for them, bad for me. :raging

Producers get chicks? Not if they're not DJ's also! Who cares who makes the beats everyones gettin' down to. It's the bwoys who spin the chunes that get the chickadees.

All in all, if their were more chicks in the scene the DJ barrel would sooner or later get saturated and some of them would eventually spill over on to the producers and other mystical figures in the DnB scene.

Till then..... :slayer

This scene definitely needs more female support, but who wants to be involved with girls that only want status? I think that what we need is some girls who are into the music, not the guy playing records...

Female support in the dnb scene as well as the music scene as a whole has definatly risen in the last couple of years. Altho women are still ( and most likely always will be), a minority, I agree that it would be nice to see some more female djs/producers. I love seeing successful women in the scene getting booked for massives (As long as its not a novelty act), and getting into producing. Storm, Sage, Roxanne, Siren, Elektra, Alley Cat, Empress, Star Eyes, Freya, and many more are all paving the way for up and coming females in the scene and that is great!!! But at the same time you have to keep in mind that gender doesn't matter as long as you've got talent and a love for what you are doing.

On the other hand, there are those stupid girls who I overhear in line for the bathroom at Lucky Dragon, wearing their camo pants and little halter tops who are like "Oh Dj blah blah is sooo hot. I'm gonna try to hook it up......" I think this is silly, but hey if they want to go out and put up a front just to try to hook up with someone because he is a "dj"then thats their deal. They just need his success to make them feel better about themsleves and I feel sorry for them. Females like that get little respect from me tho.

I think its really cool when you can find someone of the opposite sex who is really into and passionate about the same things as you are. Maybe that is why you guys think there should be more females involved, or maybe you just wanna see a bunch of hot chicks all the time. Reguardless, I hope more girls with a " love and seriousness for the music mindset" get involved!!

In Tucson I think there are way more females in the dnb scene. Not nesseccerily djs, but dnb enthusiasts. But then again our scene is small! Ok I could go on about this forever so I'll stop.

very true... hrmmm....maybe I should move back to Tucson *grins*(been thinking of moving SOMEwhere...) but I think perhaps the 'type' of girls we want to cultivate are (in my preference) not the snottsdale poser types, but the ones who are solid & true, the ones into the music, and not afraid to get their hands dirty... start releasing some of their own produced music, maybe even become known as one oi those good female dj's who just happen to live locally...
I think that may please our dnb guys if we had a girl pool of that 'type' to swim thru, not that it's all about guys and girls... but... isn't it so much nicer when you do find a person of the opposite sex to chat with, even become friends with who is not 'just another dj ho', but perhaps a dj/producer themselves? I know I'm trying to learn all I can about the different types of music, with my goal to someday share my musical ideas with the populace! (after many, many hours of practice....:metal )

exactly. ;)

I really dont mind if more or less women are in the scene or not. I dont mind the casual listeners that think the dj is hot and want to hook up. They obviously like the music or wouldn't respect the dj or stick around and tolerate the music. Whatever floats your boat, doesn't hurt me any. I'm known for my own actions, not someone else's. Honestly I dont think it's smart to date someone in the dnb scene anyway if you are 'involved'. I've seen way too many times : a nasty breakup: then you have to see this person at every event anyway. It's not worth it.

HA
im here suckkaz, just gotta open your eyes.
there are plenty of gurllz who i meet up with and kick it at partys.
if all most of you peeps see are dj hoez then look around at the REAL girls representing it, not looking to be seen, dancing in the dark, enjoying the beats for what they are.
tho it would be nice to hear girlz repruzenting in the mc arena...

Suont is not a mc, she's a vocalist. she's been representing over dnb since we met in early '97. her shit is off the hook... i realize it seems biased saying that because she's my partner. but other people like dj ss (who was nice enough to ask her to sing at his "world of drum & bass" party" at WMC 2000) recognize the capacity of her amazing talent!

please understand that i'm always going to great lengths to have women come out to sub:con. i don't know if you all have noticed but whenever preecha hops on the tables...the sistas (Black women that i invite) come out, show love, and support. whenever something is hip-hop, soul, or reggae oriented i always advertise, promote and attempt to snare them into some nice drum & bass.

keep in mind that i promote to ALL PEOPLE OF COLOR but it just so happens that i know far more Black women than any other women of other various nationalities and ethnicities.

also, AQUAFUNK: V1.0 is around the corner. with that being said... tings are going to be soulful and tings are just going to maintain the raw essence of jungle (no doubt w/ preecha, dehga, deepfreq, and jimi being peace on the tables).

http://www.sub-conscious.com/board/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1777

i really think that is an appropriate night to bring out some ladies to pop their cherries and introduce them to some drum & bass PnW stylez.

i have a couple girlfriends who can "name that tune", and everytime im in their car its nothing BUT drum and bass. but they dont go out to the shows anymore and they aren't trying to bag this or that dj. they just love the music, hate the scene.

honestly, i hear what owain was saying on that first page about not wanting to date a girl whose main ambition is the status: but on the other end of the spectrum:
its hard as hell sometimes to find a guy who ISNT a dj/producer/mc/promoter etc...etc... etc... when it comes to this music.

My prerequisites for dating a boy lately is that he NOT have a pair of decks, or his name on the list. Fuck, preferably ones who've never heard the music or been to a rave. now thats fucking "refreshing"!
I can have my likes, they can have theirs. you know? ill still go to the nights every chance i get, dance, drink, and hang out with my friends. but im not looking for mr. right. you dont find that at the club.

I am with you on this one. I definitely do not want to get involved with a girl who knows more about dnb than I do. I think the best part to a relationship is what you have to offer to each other, I dont need to have my girlfriend offer me the new ram record. That sort of thing gets boring really fast. Not to mention, the very likely senario of a "break-up". Then you get to see that person at the weeklies and all of the events (where she may be hitting on your friends to get back at you for dumping her sorry, worthless, pathetic ass)....sorry, got a little carried away. My advice is to look outside of the scene, and when you do find someone, bring them to the shows every once in a while. Show that person a side of your life that is important to you, but as soon as you see her getting on message boards and borrowing your mix cd's, head for the hills. I am not trying to offend any women on the board. I am glad you love this music, I personally need something to have for myself when in a relationships. Unless of course you are really hot, please disregard above statement.

and we love being surrounded by guys :)

maybe you guys should just stop looking for more women and enjoy what you have. if you're looking for something worthwhile, then try something else out for a little bit, and if you meet someone then introduce them to what you love.

and also, the grass is always greener on the other side. if there were more women, somebody would complain about all the "dj hos" or how dnb "sold out to the snobbstale bitches" or whatnot. just chill with what the scene has right now... it's the best that it's been.. EVER.

Yes well i realize that i'm getting in on this way too late, but i had to respond becuz i was deeply disappointed with a few of the posts within. I think the main problem is that when most people go out they are doing so just to hook up with someone, not to listen to the music and this is what had always bothered me about mainstream clubs (besides the music), even raves. The reason there are not that many WOMEN not girls in the d&b scene is becuz to truly be into d&b you have to be real, and i'm sorry to say but there is an insane shortage of real WOMEN in arizona, girls yes, WOMEN , no. I thought that being in the drum n bass scene, i would be more likely to not have to deal with hoochie glorification, but in the past few weeks i have been realizing that most, not all, men or should i say boys only want bitches to look at, and i have to say this saddens me deeply. i believe that we are at a point , in our generation, where there is a possibility for conscious evolution and i truly believe this will only be possible through PURE connection of our souls with our music. To me the drum n bass scene has been my escape from the illusionary gender standards I am subjected to on a daily basis.. it is more than a type of music that i listen to, and enjoy , it is my lifestyle..... my religion.....
