The site somethingawful.com has either a rewrite rule or script wrapper for images that checks to see if the referer is from another domain, and if it is, they send an image an extreme close-up of a penis.

Simpler terms: They don't like people to link images from their site (uses their bandwidth) and its a way to prevent 'theft' of their content.
