One of the main things thats missing in alot of new drum and bass it the old analog synth lines. The pads and stuff. Very earthreal. i love that stuff!!! Heavy bass/drums with uplifting pads. Thats the key! Virtual Analog like the virus is the problem with drum and bass today. I mean its kewl and all but man all the twisted sounds are just passe'. Get back to making people feel good at the club^^

Rant off :fu

You can't really get "true" analog anymore, considering everyone masters to dat or cd. I've thought about what it would be like to master a track to reel-to-reel and cut straight from that: buttah.

In true analog i mean using Moog/Roland and other old school synths to make the sounds. The way the old timers used to. Not VA/or computer emulation of old synths.

yeah if i could afford those vintage synths i would be making music with them :) but its cheaper/easier just to get some virtual analog synth

cos...analog is teh bestest! :D
thats why DJ's play records(well i think so...)

watch me do a fast im in a bear suit dance! :rotfl oo :D

While scientifically analog produces a continuous, richer sound wave; a high enough sample/bit rate in digital format is undetected be the human ear.

If you have a conversation about analog vs digital you have to put it into perspective. Are you talking about audiable sound quality? Complete waves instead of sampled? Usbility in producing?

My thoughts?

-Analog is a better wave - duh. Can't really be an opinion.
-Sound quality? Hardly detectable at today's sample/bit rates, but still detectable.
-Production....ditigal! No doubt! Although I'd love to own thosse old school synths and such. But I'm willing to trade a bit of "stair stepping" in my sounds to make production easier. But I'll ususally not use the sound if it stair steps. :D

I'll saw off my right arm if anyone in here can listen to a track and determine if it was mastered on a digital desk, mastered to analog 2-track, uses a digital tape saturation plugin, or whatever the fuck.

I'd rather bet you your left arm - that's the one with the tattoo.

maybe not every track is discerenable but if you listen to stuff like boards of canada you can definately tell the difference.

You guys do know im not talking about analog vs digital mixing. Im talking about the moog (real analog warm sound) to a Virus (very discernable VA sound). BTW Oliver go to www.gas.station.com and there are people there that can tell if something was mixed from tape or a digital mixing desk. But they are people who have dealt with both for years and years. It just takes a trained ear.

Autechre uses only analog gear. It's true, I've seen it. Made out of wood, with hand smelted wires.:banana

You gotta use both these days, or compromise your music. It's just that simple.
