Its a 2002 version of lighter.... It has a female singing "Put your lighter in the air" then it has snippets from the original one... with a moving bassline underneath.... dosent sound like a nintendo on a rampage ;) ..... The new black dub he is dropping is sweet also. His live set from I think march has the new 2002 lighter remix being played... Its on drumnbass arena under live shows. Its the one from the republic of sheffield.

Ok this goes into my Drum and Bass world theory im developing. The R+B/House drum and bass is comming strong and i dont think will change for a while. They want and need to make it more dance orientated. Alot of the ppl producing dark stuff are doing more vocal dark stuff or getting down right funk IE: Stakka and crew. So in order for them to get a world take over in the 2k2 they need this vocal element to get ppl that listen to trace and house to say "Hey my music sux and Drum and Bass is the bizzy".

Just part of my theory........

FYI they are doing rmxs of all the big old toons to get that vibe also. Its like a world take over bid.

R&B&D&B is all good, but some of the releases are getting too simliar. Carlito & DJ Addiction are hands down runnin' shit, but they need to start bending their sound some more... the kick build-ups are a little played.

jes - both those ep's are rocking my world at the moment. Spirit's 'Hit and Miss' has a great dub vibe, and Mindmachine's 'Bounce' breaks the world record for number of hip-hop/funk samples in one record. I mainly got the Lemon D ep for the title cut and one other tune... not primetime stuff, but works in nicely with some other stuff I already have. I played one track last week.

Picked up another batch last night - some of this stuff I had on hold for a few weeks, others just came in. Its safe to say I'm really focusing on dub influenced dnb these days:

Hive & JuJu - Headhunter / Cujo [violence]
Staight forward modern dnb. 'Cujo' has those deep bass hits that have been all over Hive's releases for the past year, which for the most part sound like 'Phantom Force' from Digital & Spirit. The old school stabs are a bit played, but the rest of the production makes up for it. 'Headhunter' just rolls, and rolls, and rolls... late dropping bongos keep it organic sounding, while the dark atmospherics keep it freaky. Prolly their best collaboration to date.

Spirit - Activated [promo]
'Activated' has syncopated bass stabs which makes the whole tune steppy... very simple, but can yield some nice results when rinsed with another basic tune. Don't know the name of the flip side, or if its even Spirit (doesn't sound like his usual stuff)... very chilled out roller with nice vibe and clav melodies, gated strings and vocal snippets. Can't wait to find out who made it.

JuJu - Soul Free / On The Run [phuturo]
'Soul Free' makes me happy to have ears. Nice strings, bouncy Intalex-like bassline, soulful vocal snippets. 'On The Run' is dub influenced dnb with slight mentasim samples in the background... gotta love it.

Capone - What You Sayin' / There Will Be A Time [test]
Just when you thought the Test label was gone. Test 7 features typical Dillinja roughness, but the Amen work on 'There Will Be A Time' and false drop is seriously worth checking out. 'What You Sayin' is kinda lame - just another rehash of the bass sound from 'Nasty Wayz'

Aggravatorz - East of The River Nile [juice promo]
Weird detuned piano melody and dub-like vocal snippets intro falls to a nice ambient drop, then out of nowhere, a really dirty amen and subroller hits. Very straight-forward tune, but ideal for rinsing with all those simple 2-stepper tracks. The flip is another amen tune, but a bit more involved. Nice little dub atmospherics, low sub that gets more distorted as the track progresses.

Hostile, Dose & Hoodlum - Reality Check / Fever [k-power 1 promo]
Sat on this one for a few weeks. 'Reality Check' is one of those tunes that seems far too simple at first, then you realize that's what makes it dope... kinda like 'Warhead' when it first came out. The subtle breaks and fills let you know that the producers were not sleeping at the wheel. Perfect tune to cut straight into after a huge track. 'Fever' is lame.

Sonic & Silver - On The Anson / Into The Light [metalheadz promo]
'On The Anson' is a choppy, dark sounding tune. Dancehall vocal snippets, reverb drenched atmospherics, low-low sub... straight up dub dnb. Quite innovative fills going on in this one. 'Into The Light' is a simple vocal-snippet roller with a lovely string arrangement. House vibes, chillin, the second drop is masterfully done - deep stuff.
