it amazes me at the number of promoters & club owners in this area who think that djs don't need payment. how the hell are we supposed to buy the records that provide music at their venues. i mean who wants to drink and sit around without music? sports bar type maybe! i think we need to figure out a way to get everyone together and get them paid. it occurred to me that it might be good to start circulating fill in the blanjk style contracts amongst the djs in the scene.:raging :king

Yeah there are only certain people that I will play for cheap or free for. But peeps need to get paid. I think the future is bright and folks need to hang in there, but "money money money is the root of all evil"(hehe old ragga toon).

c'mon now guys. don't ever play without getting paid. unless YOU offer it up front. maybe at a house party or something, but at an event where people are paying to attend, there is NO reason why the entertainment shouldn't be compensated. You are performing a talent which most of you have worked countless hours on and spent countless amounts of money on. It is a job. Do you work at your day job for free?????:down

hell no!! i need to get paid!! those contracts are in the works. i just had a conversation about this the other day with a close friend and she has a fill in the blank contract for me to look over. we need to do this and stick to it. no contract, no play. eventually the promoters will have to give in. you can't have clubs or parties with no entertainment!! let's do this, for real!!:ninja

check out the contract the Jungle Voodoo Collective uses. It is basically straight forward, i'm sure you could add or remove items that do not appeal to you.

Just tell all those club owners that you are a local DJ and that you never have to pay for drinks.:D

if any of you are on the azraves list im sure you've seen me rant about this, dont ever play without getting paid unless its some REAL reason why you shouldn't, i cant even begin to count how many times when i first started charging how often people would try to get away with shorting the pay or not paying at all... trust me you make it known you will not play if you dont get paid or you will make a scene, you will get paid... its okay if you gotta be a dick, its a business you should be paid dont take crap from mediocre promoters =)

Yeah, get an agent, or be your own--contract, contract, contract--unless you wanna play for free

I think they do that because they know that some other yahoo DJ out there will do it for free. That's one of the reasons that the scene sucks so bad at the moment. To many promtores/club owners are in it for the money and not the music. They seem to go with the cheapest/free DJ's to save themselves money. Even if those DJ's are not any good...

Their mentality seems to be: Hey, you want to be difficult and ask for contracts or heaven forbid to get paid? Well fuck you cause DJ Dickhead over here will do it for free. So DJ Dickhead goes on stage and trainwrecks every song and people get sick of paying to hear shit DJ's so they don't come to the partys and then the attendance sucks...It's a fucked up cycle...Just my 2 cents....

Thank you!
Ya know I'm not even a DnB DJ. I spin funky breaks but I try and support all aspects of the scene if they are positive and I also think that we as DJ's or as a scene are not as unified as we could be. I know that there is alot of competition in this gig but still why compete all of the time. Maybe if some of crews/DJ's got together to throw partys and stuff things would change a little. I know that my crew and I are new but we are all about getting some shit goin but man AZ is harsh and you're either with the in crowd or you're not and if you're not then you're screwed...again just my 2 cents...

If I was a DJ in AZ I would be bustin heads,
Ive heard too many peole complain about people not gettin paid.
NO CONTRACT OR DEPOSIT NO PLAY!!!!!
Plain and simple..
its not the DJ's fault.
its a service, art form , skill etc.... PAY UP PAY UP!
our scene will go to shit, If we dont maintain the cycle of balance.
no offence to promoters or club owners, but something needs to be done about salvaging our good DJ's. I f they dont get paid, We are forced to listen to ,,,,,,,,,,, well you get my point.:bounce

This really isnt any of my buisness since im not a DJ, but
I just feel affected in a (cause and effect) sort of sense, since there is a cycle of events that channel down, and depending on what happends on this level, determines things that happend on my level as a musik enthusiest... not to mention... it just makes sence to pay someone for playing,Im not tring to piss any-people off....... we just so happend to be in a thread,,, , just my 2 cents
