View Full Version : Best grub in the valley?

Fractal

for formal dinning id have to say:
1. the Phoenician: Hands down best Table D' Hote service in the valley.. and an excellent wine list, served by knowledgable staff
and 2. Le' Cole: ran by culinary students so its always amusing, plus their six course dinner is cheap ($30) and their wine list, while not extensive, still covers the full spectrum of the grape

yum yum yummmmmmmm

for all informal grubbing it has to be Plaid... their
cooks got some skillas!!! their menu is bangin and their waitstaff gots mad love

while im here i might as well add AZwines, on scottsdale... almost all wines there are served by the glass as well as sold in bottle form... the owner is the man!! one of the most knowledgable wine conisuers in the valley, always down to tell you amazing stories about your bottle... a must for all wine lovers and wine-o's:love

Tucson:

right now: yoshimatsu on cambell and glenn (next to the ghetto smoothie shop with the manniquin in the banana suit outside.) that place is so good, the wait is so long and so worth it. that place does not belong in tucson, i swear. it belongs in LA or another worthy city.
then there's el charro downtown, jasons deli (love the free icecream), karunas on grant and campbell
for a nice meal: the barrio or firecracker

PHX:

GARDINOS: three words>> mango coconut margaritas,
then Plaid and their cream sodas never fail to impress,
wildflower bread company
HONEY BEARS DOWNTOWN (cobbler in cup, what?)
and last but DEFINITELY not least:
TODAIS @ the biltmore. (all you can eat sushi buffet (even the desserts are little sushi-roll shaped cakes) then the mound of crab legs, not to mention walking into that place is like walking into a japanese animé film) << go on your birthday: its free!

theres others....but those are the ones that stand out in my mind with the fondest of memories

La Canasta is the best and most affordable Mexican restauraunt I've been taken to in that area....
and for lunch and wine theres this place called the SPortsmans on I believe Camelback by Scottsdale that is small and homeyish....sit down have a glass ,or in my grandpa's case, a bottle of fine wine..a big ol samwych..and an amusing conversation with one of the clerks..or fellow winesman...from what i've been told their wine selection is top notch..but thats all i know aboot dining in the Valley...and you can get drunk and have food at 3am at Mickeys Hangover...which is always nice!!:rotfl

Ya, the crowd can be a bit too posh for my tastes. But the food and drink were good and I was digging on the live music.

Now show me where I can get some pyrotechnics and a blunt with some chips and salsa and I'll be there in two shakes of a lambs tail.

Ya I went there for my birthday for a first time.... I went to go to the bathroom and one of those politicos ended up striking a converstation with me while I was over by the sink and he's like yelling, "hey kid, you ever have prostate problems?" ... and I was like "wtf, no". It reminded me of the time I went to the bathroom in the az center movie theater and a dude dressed as a lady comes into the bathroom and I and this average joe dude look at each other with this total "wtf was that?" expression. Good steaks tho. :wes

I just went to pinnicle steak house in BFE the other day. That was some good eatin. Had a 32 oz steak with some beans, a baked potato, and 6 flavors of thier own brewed beer. Minus the $96.00 bill I racked up, It was awesome. I was soo damn full I nearly puked in my car on the 45 minute drive home.

Oh hell ya, Im going there again for sure.

Its pretty sad tho, when the place opened up 40 years ago there wasn't those damn 1.5 million dollar stucco homes across the street. Seeing some bastard pull out of the driveway in his lexus really dampens the whole genuine western steakouse bit.

I just moved from that area of town, had lived up there since 1988. It's changed a lot, but one thing that hasn't are the people who pay out the ass for overpriced disposable homes.

A good restaurant WAY up in BFE (literally in the town of Cave Creek) is called Le Sans Sousi (i think thats how it's spelled.) They have the French cuisine on LOCK in this town. Cool place too, nice atmosphere.

If I knew a girl i'd prolly take her there :wes

On the subject of out of town styles... Barrio Cafe is also good times for the same type of price bracket... cept now since its been featured in a bunch of papers it went from just do-able trendy to uber-cant-get-through-the-god-damn-door trendy

trendy bastards, they should all just stay at trendy Kona in Scottsdale.

It was the first time I really had some outlandish grubb in a long long time, even if it sucked. Just to make sure that the place sucked big time, I want to go to a real good place and compare.
