hmmm... lets think for a minute. why are we going to war? Oh yeah, because Iraq has supposed nuclear capabilities. Why are we imposing embargos on N. Korea? Because we found out they have weapons. These people are dangerous! They have weapons that have no other purpose but to create death and suffering. Yet..... this week bush is trying to increase nuclear testing for the good old USA. In other words.. no one can have weapons except us. Why? Because we are trustworthy? Or because you live here and know that you wont be the target?
We are trustworthy right? I mean our own Bush Sr. is the only person EVER convicted by a world court of crimes against humanity. We condemn Iraq but support Isreal who is the largest terrorist country in the world. Sharon is a convicted war criminal and mass murderer who has bragged about killing palestinians as many as 750 at a time and making sure to rape the women and kill them in a painful manner. But they are our allies.
Now they are trying to pass the homeland security bill! That is a scary fucking thing! Lets remember a little history. How did Hitler come to power? Well he set fire to their own state buildings so he could blame the russians. He used this crisis (like 9-11) to convince the people that they needed action and he came to power. Once he was in power he began systematically disarming people. Sounds like this country doesnt it? He disarmed them but kept the weapons for his regime and then put curfews and laws to "protect" the people. So as you can see, we are not that far off. This country is quickly becoming something eerily similar and our "friend" Ariel Sharon is systematically destroying the Palestinians and putting them in camps just like Hitler did to the Jews.
It just goes to show that money is more important than Human life. It is sad and if people in this country dont take the initiative to find out the real truth and not blindly support the evil people in power then we are all already on our way to the showers, walking in an orderly fashion smiling while waving out little american flags.
QUESTION SHIT!!! Real PATRIOTISM is questioning what is best for the country no matter who you are questioning. It is NOT cheering for a war and putting an american flag on your japanese car!!!

Nextlevel do more reseach if you are going to compare and constrast the U.S. with 1930's Nazi-Germany. Many parties including the Russians, Roman Catholic Chuch, Italy and Austria where aware of what was going on in Germany and took no steps of opposition, look into Kindertransport as an example.
Hitler had a systematic plan to rid of JEWS in Europe, assuming that America is planning a Genocide is, well, Idiotic. Both the Israelites and Palestinians are fighting a desperate war and convestional warfare has been trown out of the Window.

first of all.. my facts are accurate Janus and I would appreciate if you would be more specific about where I am mislead. I am not implying that we are in for genocide. I am simply pointing out the dangers of swallowing blindly what is fed to you under the name of patriotism. As for choosing sides, I feel that we are made fully aware of the Jewish plight. I am not trivializing it but merely pointing out another facet. I also feel that as horrible and evil as the Holocaust was, it is not the only atrocity. I am certainly not saying we should forget, but I have never seen a memorial to the Millions of Ukrainians that starved to death or others who have been wiped out in such numbers.
I am not trying to trash anyone or be antisimitic but am simply trying to point out concerns that I feel strongly about and think are important for everyone to know.

Heh, i think i was just bored and wanted to start some Ish.
But, I think taking snapshots of hugely complex problems and claiming for the causes/solutions to be crystal clear is neglegent. Especially those quotes from various individuals are largely taken out of context and arent indicative of the current state of affairs. The quote from Sharon or whoever it is from 1956 is largely misleading a) because it fails to take into account what was going on in 1956 and b) because it suggests that because he is a leader, his views are the views of the israelis as a whole.
We can draw proof of this fallacy from the United States itself. I ask you what was going on in 1956 America. What were our leaders saying, and what were they doing. George Wallace was supporting segregation and calling blacks niggers. We still viewed Japanese americans as "Japs" and we were exploiting much of the developing world for resources. Now to say that the words of people like George Wallace held true today would be ridiculous. Not claiming that we are perfect with our tolerance with other peoples, you must admit that things are 100% better.
As far as the issue of genocide taking place in the world at the moment. I agree that lots of the shit going down sucks. But i also realize that shit happens. People wage war on one another, for LAND, MONEY, or FAITH. I think what happened during WWII is fundamentally different than anything that is taking place at the moment, Save for the ethnic cleanising in Kolsovo that WAS going on until a few years ago. I just think that comparrison a) pisses people off (as unrational as it may be) and b) fails to teach people anything about why war is taking place the palestinians and israelis.
Please, don't conflate Partriotism, or love for one's country, with being complicit in the policies that our nation supports, or actions we take. If in order to be patriotic under your interpretation, then our government would have to be perfect in every policy and action. Even if I grant that by supporting Israel the U.S. is screwing over the palestinians, You would have good ground to make the inverse argument if we were to stop supporting israel, which we did kinda create... It be very similar to how we turned our backs on Afghanistan... I and can anticipate your stance on that issue... AM I WRONG?
P.S. i would never try to paint you as anti-semetic... at the same time, i'm also tired of people assuming that if one supports u.s. presence in israel that they are automatically anti-palestinian or vice versa... i support peace, that's it... No lie, palestinians have it HELLA rough...

Real issues seem more important than petty shit. Most people could care less about what girl some guy banged last night, however it was brought to my direct attention at work this weekend that there are a lot of people who would like to see everyone on this message board dead without even knowing who they are. It's easy for us to sit in our nice homes, and ignore the fact that much of the world hates a country that takes resources from everywhere else, is in huge debt, and has only been established for a little over 300 years, yet is in control of the world (more or less) through political means. I don't see us on the same level as Nazi Germany, but on a newer and more sophisticated one, where we put the rest of the world to work as our slaves. I mean, that is what this country was founded on, right?

Look... everyones views are going to be somewhat lopsided. Thats a fact and its ok. It comes from what we read, what we wathc, and where we come from. None of these opinions are alltogether right or wrong. I think it is important to hear every side of an issue because that is the only way you can start to see the real picture and or truth.
I am not trying to convince everyone of anything or tell you that what I am saying is written in stone. I just wanted to add an opinion that may in some small way help us see the real picture.
BTW.. I hear people complain about all the politics on the board... DONT READ THEM! I think it is great that people on here are educated and care enough to debate things. If I posted that thread and no one responded either positively or negatively I would be really worried.

anyway, me, being born a jew in kiev, ukraine, having family killed in babiyar (sp?) both grandparents surviving the holocaust, both grandfathers having fought in WWII, having seen communism and heard stories from family about life in israel, now and in the past, having extensively studied religion and history, knowing that my parents left everything behind to come to america to give me freedom, i believe in one thing only, and that is: there can never be peace in this world without war.

I'm glad we dont agree because neither of us is 100% right. So as long as we listen and at least give thought to the other side we can learn something. I mean if you go to a show and then ask everyone the next day what they saw, everyone will have a different story. Its not that they are lying... it just depends where your standing and what your looking for.
Anyway..I just wanted to point out that I do not equate Sharon with all Jews. In fact he is the worst thing that has happened to them in recent history.
