what is the deal here? what is the concensus?
how do you mix what is the ideal flow for a mix how should the tracks be situated and how do you like them dropped?
my self i prefer that trancy style ultra long mix with a couple of double drops and a few fakies/teasers, scratching and of course its gotta be dark and evol the whole way through. dubs/newtracks are appreciated but not a neccisity, only good shit need be dropped to make it rock.......

I prefer records to be MIXED... that is, two tracks playing together for more than 32 bars. I love buying a new tune and digging to find an old one that goes perfect with it... I know its not going to get me any press or e-props on international message boards, but its makes me happy.
As for programming, I'm into the "Rollercoaster" approach: peaks and valleys, light and dark.... just all one flavor is too bland. "Bulletrain" sets that move along the same path the whole time and making two stops per record is :snore to me.

as far as track selection goes... I like to hear tracks that i've never heard before. No, i'm not talkin' bout dubs. For the most part i just like listening to Ish that isn't predictable... whether it be a new track or just a good track from a less popular artist.
I like the drumz... i like when dj's mix records that have drum patterns that complement each other... i know that's not saying much... but i like when a dj can be mixing two records and switch between drum patternz repeatedly... and have it sound like one massive drum exhibition.
vocals are sick... especially if you play them over classic beats or vice versa... kinda remedies the whole predictablity thing
opening track.... or opening mix or whatever... has got to be ill. It's the equavelent of an attention getter in a speech... if it's just some random track or anonymous intro mix... i'm not gonna really be as compeled to pay attention....

i like to hear songs (not cut'n'paste tracks for djs) spun in whatever manner does the song the most justice. i really respect a dj who'll let a song play because it deserves to be heard on its own. but i also love deep mixes that enhance the best of both tunes.
Every style of J/DnB (for that matter every style of music in general) can optimumly (sp?) be mixed in a certain fashion according to its idiocyncracies. Many techstep tunes have mixdowns and or breakdowns which contain nothing to mix with e.g. wind blowing. This generally forces one to mix this style of record in a certain way. Ragga jungle requires shorter mixes like in hip hop or dancehall. If you mix it exactly the same way that you mix your techstep, you will probably wind up with ragga vocals overlapping each other which is enough to murder any soundbwoy and not in a good way.
In the end its all about experimentation. It's important to learn the basic rules, but if that is all you do you might as well stay in your bedroom.
Keep experimenting.:lighter

I have to agree.
Especially in the style in which you have established. I personally enjoy listening to your track selection and mixes. Mostly your own (cough cough) ;)
As for the speed mixers, well unfotunately most "dance floor" dnb tunes get borring after the first drop. This tends to make it necessary to mix in songs rapidly. I enjoy the teasing of old tunes here and there as well, but not letting them play out(been there, done that, don't wanna go back).
As Deepfreq mentioned, I'm down with and practice the "Rollercoaster" effect.
See you guys @ Arqer on the 7th!! only $5 !!!

well id like to also add i like intricate mixes wich blend 2 tracks (or more) to create a new song which is mellidous(not just 2 records playing that have no flow(i am guilty)) id like to mix more spacey shit into my set but alike progressive(trance/breaks) no one really like that shiz here. as for non-darkstep dnb, i'd like to see some more that is ill and not techy or discoish. like airport by ufo that track rules!!!!!

why not? you're a dj play what you want to play. i personally like the older stuff just as much as the new ish.:king
Every song has a different count, beat, sound, etc. So every mix should be planned to coincide with what style or sound that track is emiting. Sometimes cutting that tracks to sound like a whole new one is the approach I take. Sometimes (usually with more mellow tracks) I like to let the mix ride itself out.
I never base mixing on one specific style because you can't be sure it will always fit to that style. Same with trance, house, breaks, hardcore, etc. Besides, the way to keep the crowd interested in what you're doing, is to keep changing it up. Don't let them get bored, or they will desert you with a quickness....
But to each his own, I guess.
