There are a lot of buses that run primarily on electricity from over hanging lines, especially in San Francisco. "Trackless Trolleys" have been around since the 30's.

word. that's funny only if you assume that the guy thinks riding a bus doesn't use oil/gas. Its obvious to me the guy is saying "if more people used public transportation, this country wouldn't be so oil focused politically".

I think he would have said trolley if thats what he was talking about. They dont call trolleys "buses" in San Fran. I think this guy just means he uses mass transit, which people consider to be better for the enviroment and help keep fossil fuel usage lower. Besides, oil is still used to lubricate parts, even on vehicles with electric motors. Considering the vast number of products that are derived from it, crude oil is a very versatile substance. Crude oil can be used in things such as lubricants, asphalt, plastics, synthetic rubber, synthetic fiber, detergents, etc.. A range of sub-items like perfumes and insecticides are also ultimately derived from crude oil. Life as we know it today would be extremely difficult without crude oil and its by-products.

yay oil! :banana

Lets go kill saddam and take our oil! :rinse

That lesson in the value of oil was fascinating. It's all so clear now.

don't electrically powered busses get their electricity from power plants burning fossil fuels?

i may be wrong.

depends on what part of the country you're talking about... but yes, its going to be either coal or nuclear. most likely coal.

CRUDE oil is used to lubricate automobile parts....but crude oil is not (nor is any part of it used) to make perfumes or detergents. Those are essential oils derived from plants.

Also, the MAIN usage for oil is to power fossile fueled engines, if we only used oil for whats listed above, then we wouldn't need the oil in the middle east. Our own fields in AK would be more than enough. PLUS, if we all drove electric or alternative fueled cars....then we wouldn't have to shovel out so much dinero to get them started in the morning...since carbon is found in almost everything that makes up this dying world it would be a readily available and cheap as hell.

But since we are humans, we won't want to make everyone drive alternative fueled cars/trucks/etc until the planet is almost dead and the ozone barely hanging on.

And one more point....everyone seems to be so ready to go "kick some ass''. What happens if this war moves to American soil?? Since we haven't had a war here since the 19th century no ones considers that possibility. Seriously think about it...if Phoenix was one day obliverated, your family dead in a horrifc show of agression from one of our many enemies, what would you do?

Look! There is no easy way ( if at all ) at the present time to void using oil and oil based products... BUT there is no reason we need to waste it frivilously!!! (spelling?) See, thats the mentality!

Use it! Dont conserve if it means going out of your way. We will just go kill a buch of innocent people and take theirs!
Then we can spread propaganda and send troops to bring "democracy" to these poor heathens who are opressed by their evil leader who WE SUPPORTED and in many cases PUT THERE!

Is anyone really stupid enough to fall for that crap?

I guess so! The people who buy Japanese cars and put american flag stickers made in china on their windows! The same people who cheer Bush on without ANY knowledge except what they hear on Conservative radio and on TV. So lets all listen to Rush Limbaug while we wave our little japanese made flags under the warm glow of bomb explosions and napalm because hey, oil is gonna get cheap here pretty soon!:reload :rinse :foff

Look it up "vada". Crude oil is used in the creation of those things.

One is derived from plants, and altered so it cannot be classified as crude.

S'cuse me for being specific. I wasn't saying you were wrong so dont put up a defense.
