Whether you're Democrat, Republican, liberal, conservative, pothead, alcoholic, junglist or tech stepper don't be a punk and come support the troops on Saturday, March 29, 2003 at Patriot's Square in Downtown Phoenix (Washington & Central). Come support your military at 10am. These guys and girls are overseas protecting your freedoms, and no matter what your stance is on the war you can't punish the brave and courageous young souls in Iraq that are doing their job. They need your support because they are risking their lives right now while we all sit comfortably on our asses bitchin' and whinin', so do the right thing for once and get up early this Saturday to show your support.
If you need a ride I will be more than happy to pick up your carless little ass ;) Just send me a pm or respond to this.
Thanx all!
~Niki

p.s. this isn't a drama starting thread (just clearing it up for some of you).

It got moved out of "events" because it has nothing to do with drum and bass or music, and has EVERYTHING to do with politics.

I dun think you understand...the majority of us support our troops (even if they joined the military for the sole purpose of getting a free education) we just don't support the 'wack-jobs' that are running our country.

Let's see, just in the current administration:

Patriot Act... Homeland Security Office going $35 billion over budget in less than a year... the whole idea that out of everyone in the United States, the best choice is a former president's son... Trent Lott... the current state of the economy... 75 billion of tax payer money approved to fund a corporate takeover labeled as a "war"... "dangling chads"... Airline bankruptcies... Enron/Worldcom/Arthur Anderson... ready.gov... Bush's attempt at assigning Henry Kissinger to head 9/11 investigation...

If you think everything I've mentioned is just something I got off a consipiracy site or pulled out of my ass, you are doing yourself a great diservice by not keeping up on the facts.

do the above things that you mentioned really make your life that shitty? no. theres no food on your table because Kissinger is head of the 9/11 investigation? Did you get fired by a bankrupt airline? no. Did the govt overspend using your family inheritance and now youre on the streets? no. If thats your only kind of beef with govt, you should be counting your blessings.

Is that what we are discussing or the point I'm trying to make? fuck no. Pay attention to the thread, especially since I'm replying to your question in the first place (asking Winston why he thinks the governement is "so whack", when he really said "we just don't support the 'wack-jobs' that are running our country")

He resigned from the position in less than two weeks after he got appointed. Do your homework.

Did you get fired by a bankrupt airline? no.Did the govt overspend using your family inheritance and now youre on the streets? no. If thats your only kind of beef with govt, you should be counting your blessings.

If you're going to be a smart ass, at least be knowledgable of what you are mocking. Your response is weak and shows that you see things more from a "how does this effect me?" stance, where as I'm more concerned with "how does this effect society?".

I don't have jack shit to do with airlines, but the point still stands that thousands of jobs are being lost by people in this industry while at the same time our government is using our tax dollars and going extremely overbudget to pay "security experts" to interview and hire screeners in the resort town of Telluride, CO. (http://www.sunspot.net/news/nationworld/bal-te.tsa09apr09,0,4364619.story?coll=bal-nationworld-headlines)

I'm very happy to be an American and I enjoy the freedoms I have here. I'm grateful for some of the sacrifices that were made to gain those freedoms, but not all. For me to be aware and critical of what's actually going on in our country is far more "American" than blinding accepting everything I see on CNN and buying what the white house tells me. You probably think that Oliver North was just another random reporter during this war.

Here's something for you to ponder the next time you throw out your 2-cent counterpoint of "we need to stop the raping and killing of families in Iraq by the evil dictaor". Why does our country lead the entire WORLD in murder, rape and number of prison inmates? Its absolutely unacceptable and horrific what Saddam has been doing to his people for the past 30 years, but if you wanna go by the numbers: you're more likely to get killed and raped in this country by a fellow citizen.

Go visit East Timor and tell those people the good 'ol USA is all about stopping the raping and murdering of innocents in the world.... but I suggest you do some research as to who was the largest supplier of weapons to their oppressors first.

In conclusion to this thread: I support our troops, Saddam is a fuckhead, the US government is wack, the media controls everything, wake the fuck up.

i think every group, government, club, scene, society, and culture in the world is corrupt in one way or another.....i even think our government is a little corrupt at times. But i also think its stupid to waste my time picking out every little thing that pisses me off about a certain group or govt. I used to rant about our government and talk shit about our leaders....i out grew that and realized that no matter what country i lived in, id be talking shit about what i dont like. I try and take the positive aspects and run with it. I figured that since i was born and raised here i should take pride in this country and our president. (i didnt vote for clinton, but i didnt bitch when he was fuckin up because its a tough job and everyone makes mistakes.) our govt may fuck you over, but another govt would fuck you over worse:spliff:D

If no one were to have bitched and moaned about the English control over the 13 colonies, then we wouldn't have this gov't you so surely put all of your faith in.
If Rosa Parks had not stood up for her race during segregation, then African Americans would not have the rights they have today.
If Native Americans had not faught for land taken from them by settlers, we wouldn't have the casino's and cheap cigs we have today.....okay that's a bad example. ;) They wouldn't have the major funding and support for their children to be schooled and make something with their lives.
If Robert Frost had not chose the road less traveled, we would not have the amazing works that inspire many poets of our time.

It's the complaining about the problems with the government that gets them fixed. If you just let that moment pass you by, you are doing a disservice to yourself and all other Americans. Doesn't seem very partiotic to me.
You've been given these rights so that our government doesn't end up like a dictatorship.
