When mixing do you like to toss up different styles or strictly stick with 1?

Personally I like to toss around different styles from different times...

Same here... I spin for the ADD massive!! But I do like to listen to a tight set of non stop ragga... that just keeps me moving since the drum programming is so diversified already. But amen after amen or roller after roller.... not my cup of joe....

I think you need to have a certain "groove" if your playing. PPL should be able to expect a certain style or sound from a DJ. I cant really think of going from BC to Everyman in a set unless it was a special occassion ;)

i like to mix a few different styles into a set, going smoothly from one to the next.

Preech I totally understand that. The mix has to be smooth and the transition has to make sense.

I like to annoy and confuse the listener. Play some amen's, then play minimal vocal downtempo, then maybe something from a complete different genre like gabber or trance. Gotta play that one song when the vibe is just right, forget the name but the lyrics "something something.... passengers side of his best friends ride trying to look at me.. etc.. etc.." then transition to some of that gangster polka the locals listen to with the bass filtered out. Then if there is anyone left, I will usually put the mic into the speaker and turn it all the way up. :crazy My rule of thumb, always have the pitch control moving with the beat (espeically vocals).

Hehe, sorry im a nerd. Myself, I let my common sense guide the track selection. Too many genres spoil the soup.
