Why is it that everyone is always talking shit about AOL (you know being an evil corporation, internet provider for idiots.. etc) yet more then half of the people on this message board that use instant messanging use the AOL instant messanger or its network? I feel im forced to use their network (I use trillian, im sOOoooo cool) because just about everyone does.

Whats your excuse?

AIM has always been the most straightfoward realtime chat application ive used. Trillian makes it even better, because you can use their service without their shitty client :D

I use "dead aim" same thing as aol but with upgrades ie: no banner at the top of your buddy list, keeps logs, and clones, meaning you can use two accounts at one time.

:up AOL

LOL - negative..

But, there was a time when microsoft messenger worked beautifully with AOL instant messenger.. i love how MSN messenger is.. but AOL didn't like microsoft using their servers like that so they blocked them and threatened a lawsuit..

thus began the instant messenger standard debate..

they hope one day to make a universal standard and allow all IM platforms to interact together.. but every company is too egotistical.. AOL has a VERY strong grasp on the IM market, microsoft wants it's cut and AOL is playing king of the hill by keeping MS out of that market..

ah well, its kinda good.. keeps MS from becoming a monopoly in yet another area.

Big Ups to all the YIM (Yahoo IM) users!

I do use MSN messenger when I need to but I've got a track record of strong arming people out of AIM.

It would be an ideal situation to have a universal standard and let people decide what client they want based on preference.

But I doubt AOL will allow that.
