I disagree, but, you'll have to specify. Both The Chronic and Doggystyle
were quite the innovative albums incorporating heavy Funk elements
(hence the G-Funk era) into their music that *no one* was doing.
Snoop rides a beat quite well and and his flow is accurate and never
forceful (especially on 'Tha Shiznit'). He is probably *one* of the best
story-tellers in hip hop. To say Snoop lacks lyrical skill or that Dre's
production isn't "original" is borderline hateration.

i keep the backpack straps tight.
the problem with the chronic.. especially "gthang".. was that the whole song was sampled... it's almost as if dre didn't do any thinking of his own.this has happened many times since he began producing rap songs.
also... every song that dre does has the same feel/style/ect.
It's as if he has a dre cookbook and just makes the same song with just diff instruments....
a talented producer can switch his style all over the place from serious, to funky, to upbeat, to classical, to experimental.. ect...
i hear you guys saying that Aphrodite just spews out the same processed dnb... well.. with that in mind... dre is like the aphrodite of rap in that sense.
to say that snoop rides a beat.. and therefore makes him a great lyricst is like saying that a rabbit that jumps on a piano to a beat is a great piano player.
his lyrical skill has diminished almost exponentially since he started.. also.. when it comes to originality... snoop hasn't really changed his content in rapping since he started.
bitches, hoes, weed, cars, money, gangsta shit.. ect....
which in the rap world.. is what everyone else is rapping about...
where's the originality there? i dont know.
i dont wear a backpack outside of school.. but what the ignorant call backpackers is the idea that backpackers are only interested in the underground for the sake of it being underground.
Well, that isn't the case for me as for many of those who are called backpackers by the ignorant clones of today.. that is not the case.
We like hip hop that's quality... with quality production, quality lyricists, quality content, and quality ideas.
I'd suggest that you put on a backpack..
maybe it'll keep the hands of MTV, BET, ClearChannel, ect.. out of your back.. and away from the levers and switches that control you..
and take that tape off of your cheek! Nobody likes a NellyFan.

sorry mike, i have to disagree with you here. i agree somewhat on snoop, but not fully.
when snoop came out, he was on point. doggstyle i feel was his only worthwhile full release. everything since
then has been the same topics, different beats. although, the cameos he makes on other tracks are always pretty good, but he is handed a new topic to flow on. i think his lyrical skill is there, his imagination just doesnt seem to strive as much as it used to. lets not forge, he did invent a new language (although so did missy elliot and nelly and they arent anywhere near snoops caliber). however, the discussion isnt on what you think about the artist, it is about the greatest hiphop albums of all time. :)
as far as dre goes, i cant believe you would even dispute the chronic. it is one of the greatest solo debuts i can think of. talk about ability to change, grow, and be versatile. from his days with world class wrecking crew (which was wack imho) to a dj to a producer and mc and talent scout - dre has always been ahead of the game and bringing us new things (he did take the risk on eminem, didnt he?). id say the worst thing i can think of as far as dre is concerned was his attempts with The Firm. Even this I think was a good idea as the talent was awesome - but sometimes things just dont work out right. to dispute Dre as original and innovative is assanine.
now, to my list. all of these have been said, and i agree:
snop dogg - doggystle
dr. dre - the chronic
nwa - straight outta compton
notorious big - ready to die + life after death
public enemy - it takes a nation of millions to hold us back
dj jazzy jeff & the fresh prince - he's the dj, im the rapper
krs one - return of the boom bap
epmd - strictly business
nas - illmatic
beastie boys - paul's boutique
fugees - the score
the roots - illadelph halflife
outkast - southernplayalisticadillacmuzik
wu-tang clan - enter the wu-tang (36 chambers)
a tribe called quest - low end theory
run d.m.c. - raising hell
eric b and rakim - follow the leader
black sheep - a wolf in sheep's clothing
digable planets - blowout comb
blackalicious - nia
mos def + talib kweli - blackstar
and add onto them:
nwa - nwa and the posse + efil4zaggin
slick rick - the great adventures of slick rick + the art of storytelling
the genius - words from the genius
the genius/gza - liquid swords
jay z - vol. 3... life and times of s. carter + mtv unplugged (feat. the roots)
a tribe called quest - midnight marauders
pharrell - the neptunes present the clones
dmx - flesh of my flesh, blood of my blood
gravediggaz - six feet deep
ras kass - on earth as it is...
eminem - the marshall mathers lp
