Job Duties:
The SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATION ENGINEER is a Grade 57 position.

Systems Engineer to install, maintain, and monitor multiple servers and the applications that run on those servers. Support and manage an SQL backend for associated applications. This includes operating system, hardware, and application installation, monitoring and backups. Must have strong Solaris skills. Assist in the development and implementation of server standards for all new servers. Assist in the documentation of current and future systems.

This position will be responsible in assisting with engineering, implementing solutions and supporting the server infrastructure. Tune operating system and hardware for optimal performance. Develop scripts for automating routine tasks for the entire IP Operations & Engineering team. Capacity planning and hardware sizing. Planning and implementing disaster recovery and high availability for critical systems. General troubleshooting of operating system, hardware, and application problems. Development of C/C++/Perl extensions to compliment monitoring systems. Primary escalation for issues related to the Scientific Atlanta DBDS systems.

Responsible for processing operational measurement data from assigned network elements to generate appropriate reports indicating the current load vs capacity of those elements. Responsible for projecting network load capacity and other operating norms to identify future operational problems. Analyze all practical solutions to eliminate identified network problems and provide report on best solution.

Works closely with vendors to ensure equipment is installed and operating properly. Works closely with engineering and operations in identifying network needs that impact network design and support requirements. Facilitates communications with employees and other departments by holding or attending meetings, preparing reports, and participating on task forces.

Qualifications include BS in CS/EE required or equivalent work experience in related technology. Minimum 3+ years systems engineering and program development. Sun and/or Linux certification(s) or equivalent technical experience required

Good knowledge of network operating systems and networking protocols.
Ability to manage large projects and works independently.
Must be self motivated and enjoy working in a challenging environment.
Good knowledge of provisioning methods (DHCP, BOOTP, LDAP, TFTP, etc)
Good knowledge of CableLabs standards (DOCSIS, PacketCable, CableHome)
Good knowledge of digital cable technology (QAM, MPEG, Multiplexing, etc)
Good knowledge of C/C++ coding methods for network applications
Good knowledge of Perl coding methods for network applications
Good knowledge of SQL database administration and design
Experience with the *nix operating system
Experience with the Solaris operating systems ( 2.6, 2.7, 2.8 )
Working knowledge of network management systems (Openview, Micromuse, Solarwinds)
An effective verbal and written communication style is essential, along with the ability to
communicate complex technical issues to internal technical and non-technical customers
Working knowledge of RF technologies (QPSK, QAM)
Ability to function in a highly fluid environment with aggressive deadlines
Strong interpersonal skills
Must enjoy creative problem solving
Must possess good organizational and prioritization skills

Ability to effectively communicate and receive detailed or important information and instruction. Ability to occasionally exert up to 20 lbs. of force in order to move objects. Strong familiarity with telephony, data, and video products and services. Ability to tolerate occasional exposure to outside weather conditions. Ability to use reasoning to troubleshoot and solve technical problems.

godaddy.com is hiring. its tech/sales (they want you to push more domains when people call to renew, etc)

12 bucks an hour from what i hear, they do drug test, and they do host sites of "Explicit" nature. :up
