I have also spent some time in the adult industry from security for shoots and dancers to shooting video to web development, I know first hand that female requirements are much greater than the male requirements. They also enjoy much more pay and fame! Male stars only have ONE MAJOR requirement...that they can "perform" in front of the camera and the crew. Performance anxiety is their biggest obstacle. And, in the industry, they are widely recognized as merely place holders.

And before anyone sez anything, let me say that this is not true of all the male stars. Some have transended this stereo type, but the cases are few and far between.
