There's been talk lately about another splintering of the jungle/dnb scene: trance & bass.
Klute, Concord Dawn, BC (as Digital Nation), Stratus, and even local producers Vectorburn & Castor have all been exploring the melding of techno and progressive trance into drum n' bass.
I like the idea of melodic music with an edge, but some of the basslines have really been weak. I've heard more deep and groovin' basslines in records off Tresor, Hybrid & Drumcode.
I'm also wondering at what point does this just become "Trancecore", which has been around for years?

I havent heard about that, but its good that they are getting deeper into that vibe. I was listening to German Trace in 92 and alot of the basslines and stabs/atmospheres are from old trace toons. "The Fear" breakdown at the end was off a old trace toon and thats how I first noticed it and bought my first BC toon :p
Some of it is sooo lame and repetitive like C4C. I mean i like one toon of theirs. I mean you can have a sound and still not make the same toon over and over imo. They just cant make it right, but ohh well........

Yeah im glad Shy Fx has finally put to bed the bambatta sounds.... He was abusing those samples in his tracks post-bambatta.

Shy FX isn't part of the trance thing - he's taken the Brazilian thing and merged it with r&b, and the Agent Blk stuff is straight up house influenced.

I dont think he means that Shy is trace influenced but that its the same thing with C4C using the same sounds the same way over and over. I was sick of all the bambatta rmxs and bootleggs also :reload

It never becomes trancecore. Trancecore becomes YOU!
are we talking TRANCE or TRACE?

Shy has the market on lock down though ;)
a lot of the new "trance" dnb coming out has been nice... there have already been some bites though... listen to Concord Dawn's "Morning Light" and then D.Kay and Rawfull's "Be There 4 U." Not only are the sounds themselves the same, but the vocal is almost identical... its not a bad track, its just "too similar" to a track thats already been out... and this "sub genre" isn't but a year or so old.
