lets just hope the types of music that get daisy chained thru your computer are worth it, i'm sure not a whole lot of people are willing to shell out bandwidth so that some 12 year old in new zealand can hear the new nsync cd:fu

ps-wtf did that have to do with producers?:raging

interesting that you say that because i hope the best for it. however, i seriously doubt many (pre)teenie boppers are aware of how to go about configuring their clients to stream under gnutella (let alone know what gnutella is). but then again, i shouldn't underestimate. anyhow, we'll of course have to weed out the top 40s but i have faith that other somaFM heads (fans) will emerge to either listen and support...or even stream themselves. so yes, i actually think people will "shell out bandwidth" whether if its ganja man...or nelly.
PS: and to answer your question regarding "wtf...that had to do with producers?" as part of being a producer, i think it is useful information for those who inted to stream their music to others. then of course, the short blurb of text that's under the link "producers" which you clicked on to read this particular thread.

heh, i'm not going to touch this one too much...
I am going to say that I've been in a fight for bandwidth for years, now things might change drastically in the future, but for right now, i actually use the bandwidth i pay for, whether it be work or recreational, i could turn something like this on when i walked away from the computer for instance, but often times i am even doing something when i walk away. On the contrary, not all people use thier computers a lot or don't do bandwidth heavy activities in which case, sure it would be fine.... i was just hoping that I could listen to the stuff I was streaming and I personally wouldn't want to stream nelly.... if you want to be some sort of bandwidth hippie trying to find a unify the internet thats fine, i just hope no one comes up with a nice hack for this.... gnutella has been known to have a hack or two in it....
and as far as the software boldness, i'm pretty sure 99% of the people here will agree that the hardware/software part of the name of the thread means the hardware and software used for music production... none the less i don't run this board and could care less what people use it for... in any case, it was just kinda ironic that someone was boasting music piracy practically, on a production board... thats like me going into #c++ and telling them about some great software that I used Soft ICE to crack, heh

interesting how you conclude piracy from that bit. actually i was only providing another means for others to stream music that YOU OWN (which is what x-gote's intentions were before the CARP). i was not by any means condoning or advocating piracy. i was only replying with nelly and ganja due to your mentioning of n*sync. next time though, when i post something of this nature, i will attempt to leave little to the imagination so that others do not draw such conclusions as you have and backfire my thread.

Ive actually touched a beta version that P2P stream client/server. I have not found it to be as efficiant or reliable as a plain server to client method.. Just about every stream I tried to listen to was breaking up and had packet loss out the ass. The best stream I could find had about 45% packet loss /w about a 275ms ping. I think its a good start though as far as multicast technology is concerned. It is bound to evolve. I think a more recent copy of it is out. Do a search on slashdot.org for "streamer p2p". Should be the most recent article, not more then a week old.
